Vikings Bakehouse recognises that our oceans are in danger and that humanity must act to ensure that future generations of humans – and non-humans – are able to enjoy the majesty of our common inheritance: the vast seas of the earth. It is for this reason that we are proud to announce that we have made a donation to become official members of Surfers Against Sewage’s 250 Club.
Who are Surfers Against Sewage?
SAS began as a response by the surfing community to the dreadful state of British beaches. Those hardy souls who ventured into the water back then often found themselves swimming in raw sewage. There are tales of sanitary towels on the heads of surfers, and human poo sandwiched between bodies and boards. Grim.
Thanks to the passion and perseverance of SAS members, the United Kingdom now enjoys some of the cleanest beaches in Europe. Of course, it’s not just surfers who care passionately about our coastlines. SAS members include swimmers, dog walkers, paddleboarders, beach cleaners, kite surfers, sandcastle builders, ice cream eaters, sunbathers, joggers…and Vikings.
Surfers Against Sewage utilises donations towards several key aims
• An education project reaching thousands of young people all over the United Kingdom, inspiring youngsters to take action on plastic waste in their schools.
• A support program for hundreds of towns and cities on their journey to becoming plastic-free communities.
• Exerting pressure on the Government to outlaw non-recyclable plastics, and on industry to take full responsibility for their involvement in plastic waste.
• Supporting the UK’s vast network of over 100,000 volunteers, empowering people to reduce their plastic use, clean up plastic pollution, and galvanise their communities to protect the marine environment.
The ocean is in danger. We don’t have much time to save it. SAS needs your support to help drive its campaigns and to secure a thriving future for the ocean.
